There are lots of myths about fungal infections on toenails. When you see a part of your toenail is discoloured you come to the conclusion it is fungal. Then you are concerned. You try and buy what ever you can to stop it from getting discoloured. But what exactly is causing the discolouration? Before you decide to treat it have you thought about how it all happened? No you didn’t. You rather attempted to treat it without knowing how it happened. Discolouration is the sign of a trauma. When something presses or rubs on any part of your toenails can leads damage to that part and it can turn to whitish or similar colours. Mostly you see whitish. It’s the accumulation of dead cells of the actual healthy toenails. Toenails are normally pinkish when they are attached to the nail bed. But if the toenail is not attached to the nail bed then it’s a dead nail. It turns into white. So the area what you see is the accumulation of dead cells of the actual toenail. So when an area of your toenail is pressured over longtime it gets gets detached from the nail bed and when it is detached from the nail bed it is dead nail. Now it’s the dead part of the toenail that the fungus are interested. They are not interested in healthy cells of your toenail but they are interested in the dead part of your toenail. Given sufficient time suitable atmosphere the fungal can establish itself into a part of your toenail and flourish. So just a whitish part of your toenail needn’t have to be fungal infected but could invite fungal. Fungal is a medium used by nature to decay a dead cell. You cut down a tree in a jungle after few years you go back to the fallen tree you find it it has no life it is covered in varieties of fungus /mushrooms growing on it. Fungus are attracted to dead cells. That’s their role in this nature. Damaged part of our toenails are always attracted by fungus. If given enough time to establish themselves they can take over the whole toenail. So now what’s the solution? Footwear! Only footwear can help you. The very damage to your toenails were caused by footwear. So correct your footwear. No other way out. Wear footwear that is suitable for your feet. Footwear causes gradual damage to your feet including toenails. Keep your toes nice and wide in a footwear. Don’t allow your footwear to keep your toes packed in a footwear. Allow them enough room to wiggle about. When you choose a footwear always make sure you have enough room for your toes to stay wide and make sure your foot doesn’t slide backward and forward but secure them with a good strap/Velcro/laces. Do not allow your feet to slide inside your footwear but give enough room for your toes to wiggle about. Let your toes do their job. The moment you bundle them up in your footwear they are not able to work for you rather they remain in prison. Put them in a disco. Let them be free. They need freedom. Your toes need freedom they don’t want to be in a prison. So to conclude fungal infections are caused by ill fitting footwear. Need more proof and explanation? Visit happy feet once in a lifetime.
